★ CANON POINT: Post Radiant Dawn Endgame
★ CANON INFORMATION: Fire Emblem Tellius comprises of the 9th and 10th entries to the Fire emblem series, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.
★ PERSONALITY:
The devoted queen of Crimea who ruled over a golden age; these are the words that will immortalise Elincia and her reign in history books and folk tales. Indeed, despite all the trials she faced, by the end of the events of Radiant Dawn, Elincia proves herself to be kind and deeply devoted to her people and tempers that kindness with wisdom and a resolve of steel.
But she wasn’t always like that.
When we first meet Elincia in the Path of Radiance, she’s just a young, frightened girl who had just lost her entire family in the attack on her country by Daein. She survived after collapsing on the side of the road only due to the actions of a ragged bunch of mercenaries, who took her in out of kindness, without knowing her true identity.
Of course, aside of the royals of neighbouring nations, no one knew of her true identity. She was meant to be a princess who would never inherit the crown, hidden from the world in order to avoid the political turmoil that would descend upon the country if people knew of her existence. Raised as such, Elincia grew up trained with all the manners of a young lady, every day survival skills and the ability to go into battle should the need ever arise, but without all the knowledge and bearing one would expect of a Crown Princess. Polite and sweet natured, shaken by the horrors she had witnessed in a sudden war and burdened by the knowledge she was the sole surviving heir to the throne, she seemed the archetypal damsel in distress dependent on the good hero Ike’s kindness and valour to see her through her journey alive.
But even then, there are sparks in her, glimpses of the splendid queen she’d one day become. Her ability to project a cheerful facade to Ike and Mist, in order to assure them of her well being despite troubling times, her desire to join the battle alongside them even though she was without her usual weapons, the kindness and respect she shows to the Laguz (a rarity in a time where they were deeply discriminated against by all others) and an unwavering desire to free her country from Daein’s tyranny - uncertain as she may have been, these were all marks of her potential to become a wise and gracious queen.
In fleeing Crimea to seek aid from neighbouring countries, she strengthens her bonds with the Greil Mercenaries, Ike and Mist in particular, which allow her to grow and experience the world and learn to stand on her own two feet. Without their aid and Ike and Mist’s kindness, she would not have lived and definitely would not have become the queen she would later be. Even Soren’s cynicism and cruelty helped her as he provided insight into the darker side of humanity and the nature of politics, without which she might have found herself as a puppet ruler with Begnion ruling behind her throne. Slowly but surely, she begins to transform from a naive, lost princess into a capable ruler.
Although her relationship with Ike and Mist influences her the most throughout Path of Radiance, it is the return of her retainers (Bastian, Lucia and Geoffrey) that her true feelings of happiness shine through. Having grown up with these three, there is no one else in the world she is closer to and no one she trusts more to have by her side. While she gets on with all three very well, with her relationship with Lucia being that of ‘sisters’, there are times her relationship with Geoffrey can lead them to being at odds when their desire to protect the other clashes. We see this the most in Elincia’s support conversations with Geoffrey, where her desire to become a strong, independant fighter capable of protecting all around her leads her to clash with Geoffrey, who often throws himself into battle recklessly in order to defend her.
While Path of Radiance ends on a fairytale note for Elincia, her subjects and her allies with the whole continent united in Daein’s defeat and her crowning as Queen met with love and adoration from the civilians, Radiant Dawn introduces the harsh realities of politics and what it means to be queen. Still kind, gracious and strong, Elincia finds that her kindness and love for her kingdom is not enough in the face of lords scheming to take power over the throne. Her pacifistic nature leads her to make mistakes with how to deal with the uprisings and potential traitors to the throne and makes her seem weak in the eyes of the lords.
When the events culminate in Lucia being captured and held hostage for the freedom of one of the biggest conspirators against her, Elincia proves herself to be a truly devoted queen to her people - to keep the peace and to keep a power hungry man with no love for his people from the throne, she refuses to bargain with traitors and is forced to let Lucia die. Lucky for her, her allies are far more clever than her enemies and things pan out that the Greil Mercenaries return in time to save Lucia and put an end to the rebels for good. But this moment marks the strength of her resolve and the actions she finds herself taking to protect her land. The devotion she holds to her country becomes stronger than the kindness and love she holds for her dear loved ones.
...When Lucia was captured... It was as if I lost my other half. Even now, seeing her by my side, I feel so strange... Wondering how, at that time, I could make the decision to abandon her...
From then onwards, Elincia’s resolve strengthens and she carries herself with all the wisdom, kindness and strength one would expect from a Queen. She chases away Begnion troops when they try raiding bordering villages in order to gain the supplies to launch an attack on Gallia (who are also Crimea’s allies) and stops a bloody battle before it can even begin by well, by being a little crazy. Very few people would disarm themselves in front of two blood thirsty armies to persuade two commanders to leave her country without spilling would but Elincia would (It works on one side and not quite on the other because Begnion senators are dicks). Why? Because she's devoted to her country and just maybe a little bit crazy.
By the end of the series, no one can deny Elincia’s wisdom, strength and kindness as a queen. She manages to win the respect and admiration from all of those around her, especially from her fellow rulers by carrying out each and every one of her convictions to the end, even if it means taking risks few others would dare take. While her rule was not entirely without mishaps, her ability to learn from her mistakes and the love and devotion people have for her means she is capable of overcoming her trials and right any wrongs that may have been committed due to her tendencies to be too kind and pacifistic. Dedicated to the peace of her country and the well being of her citizens, she has the love and admiration of all who serve her and work by her side.
★ COURT ALLIANCE: Seelie, definitely Seelie. Elincia embodies the concept of Lawful Good more than any other as she places the well being of her kingdom over everything else, including her own feelings.
★ ABILITIES:
As a unit, Elincia is basically a much stronger take on your average Pegasus Knight/Falcon Knight. Fast and powerful but extremely vulnerable to arrows and wind magic. In battle, she will fly in on a pegasus and wield her sword Amiti and a healing staff, meaning she is capable as a fighter and as a healer. She’d probably have a much harder time fighting without her pegasus but she’d manage if it was needed. As typical of her class type, she’s not very strong against melee weapons but she can deal with most magicks quite easily.
On top of being a warrior queen, she's also a sewing ninja.
★ INVENTORY: Her unbreakable sword, Amiti. It gives her a boost in defense! Also a couple of healing staves and maybe an elixir or two.
